Matching Assistance Grants

Matching grants are given to local Lions Clubs to help them assist hearing and visually impaired individuals within their communities. These grants are based on the financial need of the individual and can be used for medical as well as non-medical items, including hearing aids, low vision aids, medical services or talking computers. The SD Lions Foundation provides $2 for every $1 given by the local Lions Club. Grants are provided only to a SD Lions or Lioness Clubs.

Mobile Screening Unit

The Mobile Screening Unit (MSU) travels across the state of South Dakota providing free screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar, vision acuity, glaucoma and hearing. All services are provided at no cost to the public.

Screenings are sponsored by Lions, Lioness and Leo Clubs in South Dakota . If you are interested in having the MSU serve your community, please contact your local club or the SD Lions Foundation. To find out more information about the MSU click here.

Over-The-Ear Hearing Aids

The SD Lions Foundation gratefully accepts donated over-the-ear hearing aids for reconditioning. Based upon need, the SD Lions Foundation directly helps individuals receive hearing exams and reconditioned hearing aids. In most cases, some financial commitment from the recipient is required.

Eyeglass Collection

The Eyeglass Collection Program is a statewide project with hundreds of collection points across the state of South Dakota . Good quality, used eyeglasses are collected at stores, businesses, churches and other locations. This program provides used eyeglasses to South Dakota doctors who travel to Mexico and Jamaica . Eyeglasses are also sent to Lions International and other groups for distribution in overseas programs.

Diabetes Support

The SD Lions Foundation purchases emergency diabetic supplies for individuals in need.

Collection Locations

The Hearing Aid and Eyeglass Collection Program is a statewide project with hundreds of collection points across the state of South Dakota . Acro ss the state you will find our buckets and boxes in various vision clinics, grocery stores, hospitals, libr aries, churches and other organizations. Local clubs collect and send them to the foundation where the lens are read and used for mission trip s to Mexico and other countries , aids are sent in for refurbishing and we continue to help people in our communities here and around the world.

Sioux Falls Drop off Locations for Eyeglasses and Hearing Aids

Our office at 800 N. West Ave, Lewis Drug Stores, ShopKo, Walmart, Sears, Sunshine on E. 10th, HyVee on MN , SD Eye Bank, various churches, Avera McKennan Hospital, Sanford Hospital, Food Pantry, Re-hab Center, Moose Lodge, various vision clinics and other locations here and across the state. Call for specific addresses in Sioux Falls or contact your local Lions Club.
