South Dakota Lions Eye Bank

Your Eye Bank is Moving!

On August 16, 2010, the South Dakota Lions Eye Bank (SDLEB) will begin full operation in the new building located at 4501 West 61st Street North (Highway 38 – Across from University Center) in Sioux Falls.

Although headquarters are located in Sioux Falls, SDLEB staff is located around the state, to serve the needs of donors and recipients and physicians who work closely with recipients.

The initial 12,000 sq. ft. building design grew to 16,000 sq. ft. when it became apparent that hospitals and funeral homes preferred not to have the tissue surgical procedures performed on their premises. Therefore, two in-house surgical suites were added. The addition of the suites added sq. ft. but allows for professional training, education, staff time and transportation savings, and research opportunities. “This is a wonderful opportunity to grow the Lions mission to provide sight and better health,” said Jens Saakvitne, SDLEB Executive Director.

LIONS ONLY DATE SET: To celebrate, the SDLEB Board of Directors invites all Lions Clubs and Individual Lions Members to come together for Lions Day at the SDLEB. Tours, programs, entertainment and activities, along with food and refreshments will take place at the new facility on Saturday, October 9th, 2010. The building is located at 4501 West 61st North (Highway 38 – across from University Center) in Sioux Falls. More details will be posted in the next newsletter. However, RSVP’s will be important, so begin planning your trip now!

In addition, all Lions members are invited to host their meetings at the SDLEB as well. The building includes a board room that can be extended to the lobby area for large groups. SDLEB staff is available to provide presentations on what happens at the SDLEB and how donors and recipients benefit from eye and tissue donation. Call Joanie at 605-373-1008 ext. 24 or email Joanie at Joan_hammond@sdleb.org for more details.

A ribbon cutting will be scheduled for early fall in addition to a public open house.
